hi I'm Jessica Russo share and I've been creating collages for a long time and I use a variety of techniques and I'm going to show you a few techniques on how to elevate your collage skills

you can create collages with a variety of techniques then different materials and paper some can involve just tearing paper or cutting paper also the choice of paper could make a difference whether you're using magazine or some other type

of paper to create your collages it also matters whether the paper you're using just for its color or for the images within the paper itself you can layer the papers next to each other or overlap them and all of them

can give a different look but in the beginning you first need to know what you're going to collage for my collage for this demonstration I have chosen a Haiku poem which I will use the shapes

that I see represented in the Haiku to create two different collages one with regular craft paper that is cut and torn and one with magazine and you just need a few basic materials

I find using glue sticks with magazines a little annoying because it can leave a cloudy finish on the opposite side of the magazine so I tend to use a paintbrush with water and gel medium and

if you don't have gel medium you can use white glue but that can also leave a little bit of haze on the magazine gel medium is really just a versatile material you can use Modge Podge or a similar type of acrylic adhesive as well I usually just use a scrap piece of

magazine as my palette make sure I have a white white brush and I paint it on the paper first and a lot of times I'll use the paint brush to help pick up the magazine pieces and place them onto where I want on the paper [Music]

I also use the gel medium to paint on top of the magazine to make sure all the edges are down magazine has a tendency to Ripple and bubble a little bit and by painting on top of it it Smooths out everything and it looks so nice and I

should mention that I'm doing both of these collages on colored paper because the white paper can just like poke through and look really bad when it sticks out between our collaged pieces and just like the other collage I am

going to attach it onto some black paper to give it a finalized more finished look these are just a few of the techniques that I use to create my collages and they're really the foundation for a lot of the techniques that I use
