I've made 10 very unfair footballs and I'm going to test them all against a pro keeper to see which one will score me the most goals. But first up, we need to get a baseline with a normal football.
>> Right. First up, we've got the normal ball.
Con. Ready?
>> Ready. Let's go.
00:15
>> Save. >> Oh no.
>> Oh yeah. >> Whoa.
Right. Con normal football.
What's the difficulty of this? You hit it clean.
It's hard to stop, but for a goalie, I
00:31
can predict it. I know what's coming with a normal football.
So, I think this is gonna go straight down the middle. Five out of 10.
I know you got a few interesting ones lined up and we'll see how they compare. >> So, this is my friend and pro goalkeeper, Connor O'Keefe, but the problem is he's too good in goal and I can never score past him.
So, I went on
00:47
a mission to make an unsafeable football. I've put Connor up against Jabulanis, Chaos Jabulanis, and pretty much every other crazy football you can think of, and every time he's managed to stop them.
So today, I'm taking things into my own hands, and I'll be modifying the footballs myself in ways that are 100% unfair and would definitely not be
01:04
allowed in a real game, but should make them a lot harder for Connor to save. From an illusion ball to an invisible and the final boss at the very end, I've had 10 tries at making something that Connor can't save.
And after facing each one, he'll rank the difficulty out of 10. >> This is absolutely horrible.
01:20
>> And I'm hoping by the end of the video, I will have made a football that no goalkeeper can save. First up, we have the helium ball.
Now, helium is lighter than air. So, filling the ball with this is supposed to make it knuckle more and move more unpredictably.
And when weighing the ball, it was actually 10 g lighter with
01:36
the helium. But is this enough to make a difference?
Let's find out. So, helium football.
No idea what to expect from this. Never faced a helium one before, so absolutely no idea what carnage this is going to present.
[Music]
01:52
It doesn't dip. Oh, what a save.
The helium ball is just flying straight and high every time. Oh, save.
>> Oh, good. He caught that.
02:07
>> Oh, there we go. That helium ball flies, man.
>> So, the helium ball was actually pretty good. But what did Connor think?
>> To be fair, that caused problems. >> It did cause problems >> more than I thought.
When you hit the ball, it just stays on that line and just goes like an arrow. So, just
02:23
because it's unusual, I'm going to say it's a little bit more difficult. I'm going to say six out of 10.
>> So, six out of 10 for the helium ball. Slightly more difficult than a regular football.
But next up, we have an interesting one. It's the camouflage ball.
[Music] So, the camouflage pattern on the ball in theory should make it harder for the
02:38
goalie to see, therefore scoring more goals. But, is my theory correct?
>> Okay, next up we've got this ball. I know what you're thinking.
Where is it? It's right here.
It is camouflage. Let me know when you've got the ball out.
All right, I'm about to take a shot with it. Okay, mate.
Here it is.
02:54
[Laughter] Save. >> Got to watch it that extra little bit longer.
>> I think it's actually worse when it's on the floor. >> Yeah.
03:09
>> So, Connor was dealing with the camo ball well, but some of the other footballs I made for this video should be causing a lot more problems. >> Yeah.
>> A It's a finish. Boom.
Man, I'm on form today. It was feeling easy and then you just decide to pull out two screamers at the end purely on difficulty.
03:25
>> Four out of 10. >> Only a four out of 10 difficulty for the camo ball.
Slightly disappointed with that one to be fair. But next up we have a very simple modification, but I think it could work well.
Next up we have one of the easiest ways to modify the football and that is simply to deflate it.
03:41
So having less air in the ball is supposed to make it knuckle more and move more unpredictably. Let's test it out.
You can see there's quite a lot of give in that. There's nothing footballers hate more than an underinflated football.
>> Really? >> It's one of the worst things just cuz like you said, you can't trust what it's
03:56
going to do. [Music] >> Good strike kick.
>> One benefit. It doesn't quite hurt as much if it hits you in the stomach.
>> I was actually really surprised how much difference this made. >> One goal out of four.
And I'm feeling
04:12
confident with this thing. >> It was causing a lot of problems for our goalie.
>> Oh no. >> Oh god.
Oh, the dip on that. >> That was unbelievable.
I thought that was going well over. >> You know what?
This could be one of the easiest ways. Score more goals.
Oh, it definitely knuckles more and he's
04:27
definitely more unpredictable. I'm assuming that this wouldn't be legal in a real game.
>> No, it has to be at a certain level. >> Get in that moves.
>> Get in. Oh, save.
>> Even with these footballs, it's still difficult. >> Even though it was only one goal, I
04:43
actually think that was really difficult. M.
>> It was hard to predict. Wherever you did hit it through, it was really difficult to get.
I had to work hard to try and keep it out. So, I'd say that was probably 7 out of 10.
>> Hardest one so far. >> Hardest one so far.
>> So, a big difficulty rating for the flat ball. And it actually surprised me how effective it was.
But I've got even
04:59
higher expectations for this next ball. >> Now, my next idea is to make a bit of an optical illusion with the football itself.
Hopefully throwing the goalie off, allowing me to score more goals. Here's how I'm going to do it.
>> So, I created a contrasting pattern on the ball. So, when it's flying through the air, it should be really hard to
05:15
track. >> Next up, illusion ball.
It's obviously going to change and spin as it comes through the air, so it's going to mess with my eyes a lot trying to track it. Feel like this one might be pretty difficult.
>> I'm sure that's going to be hard to track. >> I'm already not looking forward to this.
>> Oh, that looks weird, man. Let me just
05:32
Wo, mate, that looks so weird. >> They just It stays like half and half.
>> Yeah. All the way through the air.
Whoa.
05:48
Oh, there. [Applause] There we go.
[Applause] >> Yes. Oh, >> great strike.
>> There we go.
06:04
>> Yeah. What you thinking about this ball?
>> It was hard to see. Probably more difficult to track than the camo one, to be honest.
Really? Straight down the middle.
Five out of 10. So, five out of 10 for the illusion ball.
I think the idea was there, but it just didn't cause as many problems as I was expecting. But next up, we have one of the most complex modifications.
06:21
So, this is the weighted football. For this, I cut a small hole in one side and then put a few tiny plastic weights inside.
They only weigh about 20 g, but it should be just enough to make the center of gravity off balance, meaning that every time I kick this thing, it should wobble and move like crazy. >> I have no idea what's going to happen
06:36
with this. I guess we just got to find out.
>> And on the first shot, this happened. Oh, got megged again from 30 yards.
>> So, it was clear this ball did exactly as I'd hoped and it went through Connor<unk>'s legs from 30 yards out.
06:53
>> Oh my days. This is 100% the craziest ball so far.
I don't know why I expected to happen, but it won that. >> Don't like it.
>> Oh,
07:08
mate. That >> you can't go early.
If you if I commit early, it's just going the other way. >> So, this ball did exactly what I hoped it would, and Connor was having a hard time stopping it.
>> Oh, safe. Oh my word.
>> A safe.
07:25
[Music] Yes. There we go.
You just can't react to right at the end and then it's already passed you. A This has definitely been my favorite so far.
>> It's definitely been my least favorite so far. Oh, this is absolutely horrible.
07:41
It just moves all over the place. You can't go early.
I don't know what you've got coming up. Hopefully none worse than this, but that's an 8 out of 10.
>> So, an 8 out of 10 difficulty for the weighted ball and definitely the hardest one so far. I'm very happy with how that turned out.
But we've still got five footballs to test, including the final boss. But next up, we have another
07:57
simple yet very effective modification. So, for this next football, I overinflated it, meaning it's a lot more solid and should fly through the air a lot faster.
It feels solid. >> Like all the footballs in this video, this wouldn't be allowed in a real game.
But let's see how difficult this will be
08:13
for Carter to stop. This thing is solid.
Therefore, it should fizz a bit quicker and also cause a few more problems for the goalie. Let's see how it does.
Oh, mate. Great effort.
That is rapid.
08:32
Oh, mate. This thing absolutely flies.
Boom. So >> yeah.
Yes. So quick.
>> There we go. >> Oh my goodness, man.
08:50
>> Yeah, that was a bit of a rocket. So I'd say probably a 7 out of 10.
>> So 7 out of 10 for the high pressure ball. And it even surprised me how crazy it was.
But now we move on to the invisible. And this could either work very well or be absolutely terrible.
Now, to make the invisible, I covered a football in astroturf, meaning it should
09:07
blend in with the grass and be very hard to see. And as you can see, it did actually work pretty well.
>> This is unbelievable. It'll definitely be difficult to pick up against the grass.
You actually can't see that too well. That's pretty good.
And as long as I hit it on the floor, I think this could cause problems. All right, shot
09:22
number one. Oh, you missed it.
Oh my gosh. [Music] The thing is I just can't get any power on it.
09:39
There is it. There we go.
Oh, I get there. I had high hopes for this ball.
Very disappointed. I mean, I'm seriously impressed.
That is very creative. But as a football, it's a
09:54
zero. I'd say it wasn't that difficult to stop.
>> So, unfortunately, the invisible ball was a massive fail and didn't really cause any problems for Connor. But next, we move on to a much more simple idea.
So, this next ball is one of the easiest to make, but also could be one of the most effective, and that is simply to
10:10
use a slippy football. I've bought a football with not much grip on it, and I'm going to cover it in soap.
>> So, obviously, this should be a lot harder for Connor to catch and should fizz off the floor. Well, >> feel like this is going to be ridiculous.
>> Oh, save, mate. >> Oh, no.
No.
10:26
>> It is horrible. Yeah, it's uh definitely uh definitely slippy.
>> Oh sh Wow, that is so skinny off the floor. >> Oh, he's done it.
10:44
>> Yeah, there we go. Get there.
Oh, >> he saves it. >> So, the slippy ball was causing problems.
>> No catching, >> but somehow Connor was keeping it out. Okay.
Slippy ball. What do you think?
>> I think when it hit the floor, it would really skid. And also, after your gloves
11:01
have been on it a bit, you just got zero grip whatsoever. >> 7 out of 10.
>> So, a high difficulty rating for the slippy ball. And the next modification is a bit of an interesting one, but I think it could work.
So, next up, I'm going to create a mirror ball. Imagine a ball so
11:18
reflective that the goalkeeper can't see it flying through the air. Surely that would make me score a lot more goals.
So, to do this, I've bought some speed tape. I'm going to cover this on the ball.
So, here we have our mirror football. Now, the way the light reflects off this ball should make it a lot harder for
11:34
Connor to see and judge the spin and speed of the ball. >> I am very excited for this ball.
I've got no idea what's going to happen. Wow.
It's like from outer space. Oh, wow.
Woohoo.
11:50
>> Now, the mirror ball did look cool flying through the air, but the reflective foil also made it a lot heavier to kick. So, my shots were a lot slower.
>> Oh, it's actually quite grippy. It sticks now.
>> Wow.
12:05
>> Dealing with it. >> So, calm.
What was your thing? >> Very different.
Actually stuck quite well in the gloves. cuz I think cuz of the foil you can grip it quite well which actually helped me out.
So a lower
12:21
score four out of 10. >> So yeah, slightly disappointing for the mirror ball.
I expected big things. But now we have the final boss.
This was my best attempt at making the worst football for a goalie. >> So now we've got the final boss of football.
And for this I asked AI to design a football that would be an
12:36
absolute nightmare for a goalie and make me score more goals. And this is what they suggested.
Having half the football super grippy and the other half super slippy. Now, I've bought this ball that is really grippy, and I'm going to cover the other half in duct tape, which is super slippy, and then we'll have created something that I think could
12:52
cause some serious problems for our goalie. So, this has one side of super grippy material, and one side of super slippy, meaning the goalie won't be able to get a clean catch, but also won't be able to know if the shot's going to spin or go straight, and if it'll hold up when it bounces or skid off the floor.
So, I'm super excited to see how this
13:08
ball does when put into action. So, the ball was doing its job.
Connor hated it, but he was doing well. >> I'm glad I got the grippy bit.
>> Yeah. Oh,
13:24
>> wow. It's a great effort.
Oh, get there. Yeah.
>> Whoa. See the dip on that?
>> Catch. Oh, no.
13:41
>> Same. I'm going to go 6 and 1/2.
It's just completely unpredictable. Like if you caught it with your shot on the grippy side, it had whip on it.
And if I caught it on the slippy side, was really hard to hold. So yeah, difficult on that one.
>> So with all the footballs tested, we had a lot of high scores, but the weighted ball was the most difficult. The uneven
13:57
weight distribution caused absolute chaos and was the closest we got to an unsavable football. Sorry, Con.
